Gaelscoil Choráin celebrated World Mission Month on Tuesday, October 24th by having a harvest mass in the school hall. This mass was celebrated as gaeilge by An t-Athar Ó Corcaire and was attended by students, staff, members of the Board of Management, members of the Parents Council and parent and grandparent representatives from each class. Students in the middle and senior classes participated in the readings and in the prayers of the faithful and students in the junior classes participated in the offertory procession. All classes joined in with the school choir in singing an array of beautiful hymns translated ‘as gaeilge’. This combined with melodious music enriched the spiritual and prayerful atmosphere in the hall.

Príomh-Oide Caitríona Ní Riada warmly welcomed all present and she thanked the school community for their collaborative efforts in attending positively to the spiritual, academic, emotional and social needs of the students. She said that the school is blessed to have its own wonderful missionaries. She complimented the teaching staff on the great work that is done in their individual classrooms in spreading the seeds of faith. She also thanked the entire teaching and ancillary staff for the collaborative whole school teamwork involved in sacramental preparation and in preparation for the harvest mass.  She spoke of the enormous enrichment that the children in the school bring to the lives of all that they encounter and emphasised that there is a special place in Gaelscoil Choráin for children of all faiths and none and said that the school embraces the co-existance of religious belief systems within their Catholic school ethos.

The harvest mass was a wonderful spiritual occasion for one and all. ‘Téigí amach, scaipigí an lúcháir’.
